I Spy With My Little Eye

Molly Hands

I created this painting in order to present e-safety to younger teens about the effects that their actions online can have in a dark way. By using a young girl, this immediately relates to the audience but by presenting her with no mouth shows she can’t speak or justify anything that she’s done online and has ultimately lost her voice due to reckless actions online. Giving the young girl a glazed expression within her eyes shows her transfixion on the internet meaning she doesn’t notice the eyes that surround her. I used a dark background in order to infer her sense of loneliness and helplessness that she doesn’t realise due to the brightness of the screen. She is alone in the dark, surrounded my watching eyes. I have used eyes to surround the young girl to suggest people are always watching what she is doing and not only her friends will see her actions online.
